This ship was built by Earle's Shipbuilding Co., of Hull, of Glasgow, as
the Wilson's & Furness-Leyland Line's Cleopatra. After she launched
in April 1898, she was acquired, with her sisters (Alexandra/Menominee,
Boadicea/Marquette, Victoria/Manitou and
Winifreda/Mesaba)
by Atlantic Transport and made her maiden voyage on ATL's London-New York
service on 31 July 1898. She made that trip under her original name, and
was subsequently renamed Mohegan.
On 13 October 1898, Mohegan left London, bound for New York. The next
day she was wrecked on the Manacles, off the coast of Cornwall, with 106
fatalities.
